Community Outreach

House of Refuge is a nonprofit community which includes 88 two-bedroom homes that are rented to families in need. The office is in the home community at 6935 E Williams Field Road, near Mesa Gateway Airport. Most residents are women with children
leaving abusive situations. By providing a home and comprehensive wrap-around supportive services, the nonprofit helps families become self-sufficient and move to long term housing.

GVAL has been providing volunteers to give the children art experiences since April of 2022. The art activity takes place weekly on Wednesdays with at least 2 volunteers each time. There are about 5 to 17 children each lesson. Kids range in age from 4 to 12. The House of Refuge Community Center address is 6909 E. Ursula Ave. Mesa, AZ 85212. Please contact Donna Finter at donnafinter@gval.org if you haven’t signed up yet and wish to join in this art experience for kids. Tell her if you are willing to plan, demonstrate or help with a project. Maybe you are fine with any of those roles. Thank you from the GVAL team!

HD South, home of the Gilbert Historical Museum, hosts art classes on the 2nd Saturday each month from 10:30 – 12:00. For several years GVAL has provided instructors for the art classes. The instructors are volunteers and they determine what they teach. If you would like to be a part of this worthwhile GVAL Community Outreach program, please contact Donna Finter at donnafinter@gmail.com.

HD South, home of the Gilbert Historical Museum, also hosts Paint and Sip classes on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:00pm. GVAL provides instructors for this very popular class. Our GVAL members have such a wide variety of talent and we are proud to share that as part of our Community Outreach. If you are willing to contribute your time and artistic talent in this very valuable way, please contact Donna Finter at donnafinter@gmail.com. Thank You from the GVAL Team!
