We will have the opportunity give back to GVAL as well as HD South. Plans are under way to display and sell your lovely 5×7 unframed artwork in the lobby of HD South. $5 will be donated to GVAL, $5 to HD South, and $10 will be sent to the artist to defray costs.
Every year, GVAL has expenses over and above the membership dues collected. We have lined up many art experts for the live presentations you will enjoy in the coming season. Our costs also include rental space for our meetings, insurance, as well as payments to maintain our online presence. Your $5 per painting donation for each one sold will help!
HD South allows us to display our Member Show and Annual Juried Show free of charge each season. The donation of $5 per each painting sold can be a small token of appreciation for the support we receive all year long.
So…grab some inexpensive 5″x 7″ paper or canvas panels and bring your finished art work to the September meeting! The artwork will be displayed on tables, so there is no need to frame.
House of Refuge Project: GVAL members have an opportunity to share their artistic talents with a nonprofit organization that serves families (with at least one minor child) who are experiencing homelessness, many for the first time. 85% of the families are single women and children, with over 50% coming from domestic violence situations. The Mesa complex has an annex of administrative offices, a chapel, a family services office, an employment and education center, a community center for the kids, a donation center and 80 homes.
GVAL’s donated art pieces can be any size and kind… paintings, photographs, mixed media, drawings, canvas art, prints, word art, etc. Art that members create specifically for House of Refuge and artwork that is no longer needed by members will be appreciated. If framed art includes glass, it will be transported as carefully as possible.
Donated art will first spruce up four office and center areas according to art piece size and aesthetics for those areas. The rest of the artwork will go in the donation center for the residents to choose for their individual homes. The residents are allowed to live in the homes for one year. At the end of that year, residents may to take anything from their homes to their next place to live.
Donna Finter of GVAL, who lives in Southwest Gilbert is the contact person for questions and for receiving or collecting artwork. She and her husband will begin to deliver art to House of Refuge after mid-March. This will be an on-going GVAL effort. Donna may be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
See https://houseofrefuge.org for general information on the nonprofit. If you have food to donate, contact House of Refuge at 480-988-9395. For good condition furniture, household items and clothing that you can’t drop off, email email@example.com
A huge thanks to GVAL members for supporting House of Refuge! So far we have donated over 239 pieces or art. Another art drive will take place in the fall and GVAL members will be notified.
Mural Fundraising Opportunity for GVAL!
Read or print the Call to Members HERE and watch the short video above. We are going to design and paint the garden mural at the Michael R. Zent Healthcare Center in Phoenix. This is a GVAL fundraiser…emphasis on FUN! Members were encouraged to send in design ideas. For those members who submitted designs, we thank you! This project needed to be put on hold, but watch for the proposed design and a painting schedule soon.
