Projects and Events

House of Refuge Project: GVAL members have an opportunity to share their artistic talents with a nonprofit organization that serves families (with at least one minor child) who are experiencing homelessness, many for the first time. 85% of the families are single women and children, with over 50% coming from domestic violence situations. The Mesa complex has an annex of administrative offices, a chapel, a family services office, an employment and education center, a community center for the kids, a donation center and 80 homes.

See https://houseofrefuge.org for general information on the nonprofit. There is a section on their website that explains volunteering. Sarah Rollinger is the person in charge of volunteer opportunities. Her email is volunteer@houseofrefuge.org. Tell Sarah that you are part of GIlbert Visual Art League’s effort to support their nonprofit.

Mural Fundraising Opportunity for GVAL!

Read or print the Call to Members HERE and watch the short video above.  We are still planning to paint the garden mural at the Michael R. Zent Healthcare Center in Phoenix.  This is a GVAL fundraiser…emphasis on FUN!  Members were encouraged to send in design ideas.  For those members who submitted designs, we thank you!  This project needed to be put on hold, but watch for the proposed design and a painting schedule soon.
