Our November meeting is quickly approaching! In addition to our usual art critiques, announcements, and contests, artist Diane Kleiss will be our speaker. Diane is an encaustic, mixed media and sculpture artist who will be giving us a talk on her work with encaustics.
For those of us that are unfamiliar with encaustics, these are paintings or works of art made with wax colors, which are fixed in by heat, or with any process in which colors are burned in.
Diane started out painting in oil and sculpting in clay. In 2004, she combined these mediums with beeswax. This brought Diane into a new era for her art, one which she continues today. Her general inspiration has been nature and the varied landscapes of her youth and adult life. Diane has been juried into both national and local exhibits, and continues to study and teach in her Mountain View Studio in Tucson.
Although many of us might not work with encaustics, the November meeting should be an interesting foray into an unusual medium and should provide inspiration to all of us, no matter what our medium. We hope to see you there!
