Member Meeting presenter –Rob Stenberg

Rob’s contemporary southwest/tribal depictions of Warriors and Shamans are paintings of his very own tribe to honor and give respect to the many people who walked the earth before us. Rob’s “Tribe” just completed their 15th year at the Celebration of Fine Art.

Higley Fine Arts Festival:

Fundraiser Workshops has been scheduled for Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 9 am to 1 pm

Teacher: Stevie has more than 20 years of experience teaching oil painting classes at various venues around the valley, including Paradise Valley Community College.  Find out more about Stevie at StevieDennyArt.com.

Class Title:  Enhance your Oil Paintings with Transparent Color
Date:  Saturday, April 22, 2017
Time:  9:00 – 1:00 (one-hour demo, with 3 hours painting time)
Subject:  Stevie will demonstrate a floral painting using transparent color techniques, but you may also bring your own landscape photo to work with if you don’t want to paint a floral.  The same principles of color can be applied to any subject.
Cost: $65- Payment can be made by cash, check or charge at the April Membership Meeting, or payment can be made with card over the phone through our Treasurer at: 480-907-6059.
Supplies: Here is the class supply list. Please come supplied and prepared to paint. Early arrival is recommended as class will start promptly at 9. 
 

Be on the lookout for the next workshops in our fundraising series, we will be offering a wide mix of subjects and mediums for your consideration, a great chance to take your art to the next level!

High School Congressional Art Competition:

GVAL Collaborates with High School Congressional Art Competition

GVAL members will hang over 100 pieces of artwork and photographs created by high school students in The Gallery of the Gilbert Historical Museum on April 28th. There will be a reception for the students and their families on May 6th with Congressman Biggs. Awards will be given in two categories of painting/drawing and photography/digital. The artwork of the 1st prize winners will go to the US Capital to be on display for one year. 2nd and 3rd prize artworks will hang in Congressman Biggs’ office in Washington DC and in Gilbert.

May:

Member Meeting presenter –Bruce Stam

The May program presenter is Bruce Stam,  oil & watercolor artist. Bruce judged our Juried Fine Art Show last month. He’s coming to the meeting to give members an overview of how he judged the winning paintings.  He’ll also give tips on what judges generally look for.  Members, who received awards in last months’s show, are asked to bring their winning pieces to the May meeting, so Bruce can talk about what made them winners. 
Please note that Bruce will not be doing general critiquing of other paintings. He
will discuss only the paintings that received awards.

Member Meeting presenter –Bruce Stam

Bruce Stam is an oil and watercolor artist, well-known in Arizona for his plein air painting. Bruce also travels each summer and paints on location in many scenic spots in other states. He can be seen around town leading plein air painting groups, sponsored by Jerry’s Artrama. These sessions are free of charge, and open to anyone who wants to participate.

The 14th Annual Juried Fine Art Show

Entry is open to all regional artists. The show will run from February 25 – March 25, 2017.

February 25, 6-8:00 pm is the Opening Reception that welcomes the public.

We will have Awards and a Raffle for artists in the show. More parking is available in the school lot on Elliot Road just west of the Gilbert Historical Museum.

March 25, 5-6:30 is the Closing Reception that is open to the public. The People’s Choice Award will be presented.
