Summer’s over, and the prime art buying season is upon us! If you’re looking for a special place in which to create and sell your art that is air-conditioned, brightly lit, clean, and affordable, now is the time! Art on Boston has one 10’ x 6’ artist studio space available for rent immediately, and another 10X6 available Oct. 1. A 10X10 space could also be accommodated. All utilities are included in the monthly rent, with access to a kitchen, restrooms and utility sinks and guaranteed gallery exhibits, receptions and promotion. A limited number of Artists Cooperative spaces are also available, ranging in price from $85 to $120. So, and pack up your supplies and get off the kitchen table or out of the garage, and join our community of creative energy as we go into season! NEW SHOW ~ Please join us on Sat. Sept. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. to meet the artists in our new show, “Life,” with Vikki Reed’s spectacular watercolors, George Lenz’ amazing digital photographs, Cindy Conners beautiful fine silver jewelry and Kevin Caron’s fabulous metal sculptures. The show continues through Oct. 26.
NEW! Web exposure ~ For artists who do not yet have a web presence, but who do not want the expense of securing a domain name, creating or hiring someone to create a website, Wendy Fallon of Art on Boston is offering portfolio pages for only $75 a year. The price will include up to 3 photos, your contact information, and will appear on the Art on Boston website. There will be nominal charges for changes made through the year. ARTIST OPPORTUNITIES
We also wanted you artists know about a few upcoming opportunities for additional exposure for you and your art. Two are non-profit organizations requesting art for silent auctions, and the third is a similar request, only the artist will actually receive some money for items sold.
Barb Natoli, a mixed media artist who used to own Quintessence Gallery in downtown Chandler, is helping to secure art donations for NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness. They are holding a Mystery Writers luncheon Oct. 25, and she is looking for any donations of art for that event. You may drop items off at Art on Boston Gallery and she will pick them up here, probably by Oct. 22 or 23.
The CHW Foundation is presenting their fifth annual “Laughter is the Best Medicine” gala for Chandler Regional Medical Center, and are also looking for donations of art and other items for their Nov. 1 event, with pickup no later than Oct. 15. Again, you may drop items off at Art on Boston Gallery for pickup.
And finally, the Chandler Center for the Arts and the Chandler Cultural Foundation are having a fundraiser with an online and silent auction for an Oct. 2 event with comedian Terry Fator. Each artist will set a value for their donated piece/s, and CCA will set a “reserve” – the amount where the bidding should start – and the artist will receive 75% of the first bid. If your item is valued at $300, and there’s a $100 “reserve” price, you will get at least $75 for the first bid. CCA and the Foundation will keep the additional over the reserve. Drop off any art, fine craft jewelry, etc., that you think would be successful for this event, which is already sold out at the CCA. Would need to have the items here at Art on Boston by Oct. 1.
Depending on the items that are donated, there’s a chance we could come up with an Art on Boston basket, so even small items like notecards, prints, etc., would be greatly appreciated.
In addition, Art on Boston will be decorating a wreath for the ICAN Festival of Trees, which will be in a silent auction at the San Marcos Resort on Fri., Dec. 5, with about 250 key Chandler movers and shakers, including the mayor, police and fire chiefs, and many more influential residents and business people. Our theme is “Arte del Sol” (Art of the Sun), so any small “sun” related items in yellow and purple will be considered. This is a donation, but if you want to make additional ornaments for sale from the Art on Boston holiday tree, we’d love to see them.
SPIRIT OF THE SEASON ~ Small Gifts of Art
We’re finalizing our prospectus for the Small Gifts of Art show, and will be looking for 12”X12” wall art and other small original pieces of art for under $100. Delivery for jurying will be late October, and the show runs November and December. Sorry, no jewelry from outside Art on Boston this year; we will only be selling the fine craft jewelry of our In-Studio and Artists Cooperative members.

Millefiori Polymer Clay Bracelet, by Jill Irvin. Learn the basics of the Millefiori technique and make canes of polymer clay to create an intricately designed set of beads for your own bracelet. $40 plus $15 materials fee. 2-4p.m., Sun., Sept 14

CREATIVITY AND SPIRITUALITY ~ The two can be intertwined, and one often feeds off the other. Are you interested in a single class or possibly a series of sessions on Creativity and Spirituality? What would you like to see included in this? We have a teacher who is interested in presenting this, so we’re gauging interest.
BUSINESS OF ART SERIES
Thanks to all of you who took part in all or part of the series. It was a very popular one, and obviously there’s a need for this type of class for artists. We are planning to repeat it after the first of the year, and will be adding other sessions on “Getting Started;” “All About Prints & Giclees,” and more.
Free ‘Personal Publicity Planning Workshop’ Sept. 27
Communications expert Marion E. Gold will lead a free interactive workshop on “Personal Publicity Planning,” presented by Arizona Press Women, which is open to the public. The event is from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, will begin with coffee and networking, followed by Gold’s presentation. The workshop will be presented at 7181 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale (east Building 1 at Scottsdale Waterfront, parking in Nordstrom’s garage or Scottsdale Waterfront merchant’s underground parking or on-street).
