Join us for a presentation by Michael Hayslip on Thursday, March 4. Mike is a photographer and GVAL board member. His photo “Lakeside Silos” won first place in the photography category in the 2009 art show. His work is currently on display at Art on Boston gallery in Chandler and the Coffee Cove in Gilbert. Mike’s favorite subjects are wide-angle landscapes and close-up shots of flowers and objects. He will discuss the differences between traditional and digital photography, the basics of getting a good shot, and how to photograph your artwork for art show entries. If you have a camera, bring it with you to the meeting for a hands-on demonstration.

If you plan to attend the membership meeting, bring your artwork to share with the club. We have two opportunities each month: Critique and Artist of the Month. Pieces for Critique should be an unframed, unfinished work in progress. The Critique is a great way to get feedback for improvement or suggestions to solve any problems you are having with the work. The Artist of the Month piece should be finished and framed for presentation. The Artist of the Month is chosen via a vote secret ballot vote by all present at the meeting. The winner receives a cash prize and a write up on our website.

General membership meeting: Thursday, March 4, 2010. Art critique starts at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7 p.m.

Meeting location: The Gilbert Historical Museum, 10 S Gilbert Road Gilbert, AZ (SW corner of Gilbert and Elliot). Parking is available on the North side of the building.
